“What If Someone Actually Did?”
1 Corinthians 11:1
Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
Thoughts for Today:
This is an incredibly bold statement. I might be tempted to say, "Follow Paul as he follows Christ." Yet Paul says, "Follow MY example, as I follow the example of Christ." In other words, he is telling everyone, "If you want to know what to do, just follow me." Those are words I wouldn't dare to say. What if someone actually did? Would God be pleased?
Many times in my mission work I thank God for the example of Paul. Why? Because without him I wouldn't know what to do, how to do it, what to think or what to say. He has been a great encouragement and model in my efforts to serve God by spreading the Gospel message. Paul's statement in our passage today is one I pray about with increasing fervency, "Please Lord, conform me to your image, help me to become a worthy example to the people you place in my path, and let the words of my mouth and the fruit of my life demonstrate Christ's love and Your grace in every way." Perhaps one day I too, will be able to say with confidence, "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ." And Paul!
Questions to Ponder:
I am so amazed at the work God did in Paul's life. It's one more reminder that we will never become righteous through our own effort. We all need Jesus. He's the only worthy example. Our example will always be flawed because we are human. But that doesn't mean others cannot be blessed by our example. What effort are you making? Are you stuck in the same place or growing in Christ? Open your Bible and allow God to enter your heart. His Word is transformational.
