“Confidence in the Lord's Calling”
2 Corinthians 1:15
Because I was confident of this, I planned to visit you first so that you might benefit twice.
Thoughts for Today:
Several years ago, when I first began writing devotions for my men's group, a man asked me what right I had to instruct others. At the time I thought it was an interesting comment. I answered, "I don't have a right; I just have a calling. If it is truly from the Lord, it will be blessed, if not it won't. Let's see what happens." Today, I think the man has his answer -- the Lord can use even me!
In our passage today, Paul makes a pretty bold statement (which someone with false humility wouldn't make). He knew who he was, and the anointing God had placed upon his life, so he had confidence the Corinthians would benefit by his coming to them. It wasn't pride, egotism, or self-aggrandizement that motivated his comments. It was simply the truth. I've learned a similar lesson in my own walk of faith: If I don't trust in God's ability in me, why would anyone else?
Questions to Ponder:
Our confidence is not to be in ourselves, but in the certainty of the Lord's calling. We do so by placing our doubts aside and trusting the Lord to do His work through us. In what areas has the Lord called you to step out in faith? To whom has the Lord asked you to reach out? Will you do so with confidence in the Lord's ability to use you? Will you yield to Him?
