After receiving her pocket testaments in the mail, Gail from Westerly, Rhode Island, did as she had faithfully done many, many times before…she armed herself with her pocket Gospels and was ready to meet several people that day and simply hand them a Gospel of John. She recounts,
“I grabbed my Gospels of John and headed to the park across the street from my home.”
Being blind, she waited at the crosswalk hoping that the drivers would see her white cane and stop so she could cross. Well, this day a vehicle stopped immediately. Unable to see the driver and unaware that his window was open, she automatically said, “Thank You”. To her surprise, a man answered, “You’re welcome”.
“I quickly walked towards him, simply handed him a pocket Testament and then immediately crossed to the other side of the street. As I stepped on the sidewalk facing the park’s entrance, I heard someone yell, ‘Hey, I’d like one of those! What are you passing out?'”
It was a young lady named Garnet who had just gotten off her night shift and was riding her bike through the park. Gail was thrilled to spend a few minutes with her and hand her a Gospel of John. She gives out her favorite cover with a Lighthouse and the words, “Finding Your Way”.
As Gail moved on she heard two people talking, who were sitting on a bench. She approached them, handed each of them a pocket Gospel, and began to speak about salvation. They introduced themselves as Elisa and her boyfriend, Donny. As it turned out, Gail attended the same church Elisa’s grandmother had when she was alive. God made a connection between Elisa and Gail. Sharing about the sin that all of us have and our need of forgiveness through our only hope in Jesus Christ, Gail joyfully expressed,
“That day, with their pocket Gospels in hand, Elisa and her boyfriend Donny bowed their heads and trusted Jesus as their Savior!”
Gail is faithful to simply hand them the pocket Gospel and God is faithful to touch their hearts and draw them to salvation.
