God’s Word Is Not Bound: What’s Happening in India Right Now

The news coming out of India is moving fast, and it’s not slowing down.

Even as our team gathered to share this update, word arrived of yet another proposed law targeting non-Hindu faiths. The latest is the Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment, which introduces sweeping restrictions that could severely limit the ability of Christian ministries to operate. You can watch a short video overview here to learn more. It is part of a rapid-fire pace of anti-Christian legislation that can feel dizzying to follow.

And it is not just legislation. As believers in India celebrated Easter alongside the rest of the global church, radical nationalist groups violently disrupted their worship gatherings. Our brothers and sisters are celebrating the risen Christ under real threat.

They Are Undeterred

Here is what is so staggering: India’s Christians are not backing down.

Since October 1st, over 3 million people across India have been invited to meet Jesus through a Gospel of John. That is 2.38 million reached digitally and 625,000 through print. In the face of persecution, God’s Word is going forward.

One local pastor captured the spirit well. Standing before an outdoor Christmas gathering of roughly 10,000 people, he said: “God has given us the opportunity to share at this big crowd. This is our place, and the Word of God is here. Praise you, Lord.”

That is not the voice of someone who feels defeated. That is the voice of someone who knows who holds the future.

Beyond large celebrations, League Partners were also out in smaller villages and towns near the Nepal and Bhutan borders, reaching people in quieter, more remote places. Large crowd or small village, the Word was going out.

Numbers matter, but what happens after someone receives a Gospel matters even more.

Our team recently sat down with a League Partner on the ground in India. He is eager to use the PTL App to go deeper, specifically the Community features that connect new and curious believers directly to local followers of Jesus. With a wide smile, he said simply: “I’m really looking forward to using this. I am excited!”

In the coming weeks, he will be launching multiple Communities in four Indian languages, supported by trained moderators who will engage with individuals one on one, answering questions, offering encouragement, and pointing people toward Christ.

This is what lasting impact looks like. What begins as a download can quickly become a discipleship relationship centered on Jesus.
