The Persistence Of A Teenage Girl
Being Pastors who are working together to evangelize their local community, Osman, Abdul and a few others have been taking the pocket Gospels of John to share the Good News to the young and old alike. One day recently, Abdul was out at a local site with another pastor. Several people had gathered around to hear what he had to say from this little booklet.
Abdul was standing on the street,
holding up a Gospel of John
and telling a group of listeners about Jesus.
There was a young teenage girl who was listening in the background. Slowly she approached the front where Abdul stood. She seemed interested in his message. As he told the story of Jesus, Abdul began to simply offer the pocket Gospels to the small group gathered there.
The young girl inched her way forward,
and mustering her courage, she told Abdul that
she I would love to have one of those Gospel books he was giving out.
Abdul gave the girl a Gospel of John and then continued to hand out the little booklets to others assembled nearby. He offered them as free gifts to the bystanders.
But the teenage girl persisted and asked Abdul,
“How can I understand this book
if you do not explain it to me?”
In order to be eye to eye with the girl, Abdul took a seat on a bench near the building where they had been standing. He opened the Gospel of John and began to explain the scriptures to her. He told the young teenager how she too can read the Gospel herself, and how the message will change her life by introducing her to Jesus.
The young girl told Abdul that she wanted to know Jesus!
So, he laid his hand on her shoulder and they prayed together
as she accepted Christ as her Savior.
