Genesis 4:7
If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it."

This verse reminds me that though God's love is unconditional , it does not mean that it come without some expectations on our part. He loves us but we are expected to do what's right in accordance to Him

Cain was tempted and the Lord spoke to him and encouraged him to do what was right and be accepted but as we see Cain chose the way of sin and killed his brother Abel. Cain fell to the temptation and committed the sin of murdering his brother. After Cain's sin, he was banished from the presence of the Lord. Temptation is an ever present reality in our lives and we must choose the right path, and choose to honor the Lord and reject the temptation to sin. Lord, help me/us to follow Your ways and reject the temptation to sin when it presents itself. Amen

Amen Lloyd, If Cains does well by God's standard, after God rejected his offering, that cure for his rejection is obedience, If Cain does what is right(obey and repent) for his anger, God will accept him. Be Blest and Trust in His Faithfulness to the Body of Christ.

Here, I believe, is God's first call to repentance. It is so amazing how God never changes but holds true to His word. Jesus spoke a similar thing in Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Cain had to learn to overcome his desire sin, just as we do today. It is so easy to get upset and let sin rule us but we have to turn to God and seek him.

Amen, Patty. It's so easy to let sin tempt and draw us in if we allow it. God bless and protect us all from the temptation to sin.

Of course the Lord will accept you if you come to him with goodness in your heart . If you do not repent to the Lord you will feel guilt of your sin when in the presence of the Lord.

I have often heard people saying things like "there's no turning back now" or "you've already gotten this far, a little bit more won't make a difference". This verse says it all. Once you make a mistake, sin is crouching at your door, waiting to take you over. It's never too late to turn around. There's no mistake so great that the blood of Jesus can't cleanse.

I appreciate this verse when it say we must master sin. To me it say (because I read the Old Testament with a New Testament perspective) though Christ has done it all, that we are saved by grace, we know this truth when we make a decision, when we make a choice. God is leading and we see the evidence of that grace when we choose to follow. The results are that God does a work in us more than we ever thought possible or dream!
