1 Corinthians 8:13
Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall.

We are a witness to others, whether or not they have received Christ into their lives. We must, as believers, be careful not to entice or wound the weak, that may not be as strong in their faith as we are. Lord, help me/us to walk in such a way that we will be a true witness to others, whether they are in the faith or not. Amen

1 Corthinthians 8: 12-13 But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble. This chapter is about eating meat sacrificed to idols. When I read this the picture that comes to my mind is going into a Chinese restaurant and seeing a statue of Buddha with all these candles and food spread around it. To my knowledge, I don't think that statue ever eats that food. I've researched and, I'm not sure what they do with this food after its sat there awhile. Anyone reading this that DOES know, feel free to comment and let me know. I DO know, in the Old Testament, when they made sacrifices to Yahweh, it actually ended up being a barbecue. They offered the food cooked it on the fire then they had a huge feast. But this chapter to me, isn't so much about eating meat or not eating meat. First of all the word meat, in the Strongs/Thayer dictionary is G1033 brōma: making that which is eaten, food. I believe, as Christians, we have liberty to do a lot of things both Colossians 3:17 and 1 Corinthians 10:31 basically tell us whatever we do, talking, Doing, eating, drinking, give thanks and do it to glorify God. And if we do something that causes our brother or sister to stumble, that doesn't bring glory to God, then we shouldn't do it. Papa God, search my heart and show me ANYTHING, no matter how small that's in my life that doesn't glorify you, in Jesus name, amen

This can be applied to many things. If we do something that causes another to stumble then we are to stop. We are called to be the light unto others and if we cause someone to sin then we will be held accountable.

Do not do what may cause others to fall into sin because they may follow what you do therefore you become the cause of their sin. If you do anything that causes another to sin stop doing it.

I believe that what is being said is that we need to be examples to others and if our choices appear to cause others to sin, even if the choices in and by themselves are not sinful, we should regard them as sinfull and not engage in them again.

Basically, we are not to do anything that would make a brother or sister fall into sins: whether it be meat or drink or sex. This list can go on forever!

I believe there is a relationship here to a practice by a believer, who for instance, can take a drink of alcohol and is not addicted to it nor does so on a regular basis. But if a weaker believer sees you doing so, he/she sees that this brother or sister is taking a drink they may say; well my brother or sister in Christ does it so it's ok. However, if that brother/sister is weaker and falls into addiction because he saw his/her fellow believer partaking, then he/she has failed in his/her witness. Therefore, I chose to stay clear of such things. The Bible does not say we should not have a glass of wine but it does say we must not become intoxicated. However, some are weaker and could become addicted because of our partaking. My thoughts.

I agree with you entirely Lloyd. If you want a drink or a cigarette, I feel it's okay. The Bible says:be filled with the Holy Spirit. Don't over do these things.
