I wonder how many times when things are not going like I think they should or the outlook seems dark do I throw in the towel and go with my own plan before waiting on God's plan. Things looked very bad for Mordecia but he trusted in God and look where he ended up.

Of all the times I have read and watched movies about the book of Esther, never before now had I recognized Mordecai this way. And in today's reading I can see Jesus in Mordecai and the Esther as representing the Holy Spirit.

Just because you get power, does not mean that you forget about others. When you do good and do right by people, good will come to you. So many people, once they get power, will oftentimes think about themselves and what else they can do get further at the expense of other people. Mordecai was humble and did not let power go to his head. Instead, he used his power to do what was right for his people (Jews). He was selfless and cared about the welfare of his people. He didn't use his power to think about himself and what he could get out of it for himself. He used it to help his people.

Mordecai was not a selfish man and wanted to make sure the Jews were protected. So many times we can become all about ourselves and make sure we are protected first.

Mordecai did not turn his back on the Jews. He did was right for them and did nothing for his own gain. So many times we can become selfish and say, 'what is in it for me', but Mordecai wanted to make sure the people were protected.

Mordecai's story is our story. In the beginning of the Book of Esther Mordecai is hated by the then second in command to the king, Haman. Haman convinces the king to sign a decree to kill not only Mordecai but all of his people. God intervenes and rescues Mordecai and all of his people and elevates Mordecai as second in command. We are born sinners, separated from God on our way to a Christless eternity. Jesus Christ stepped in and not only dealt with our sin but He died the death we deserve. When we come to Him by faith He elevates us as sons and daughters of the King of kings and Lord of lords. We become princes and princesses in the royal family. When He comes again to set up His kingdom we will rule and reign with Him! What a glorious Savior! Thank You Jesus for Your grace and mercy toward me!
