1 Chronicles 7:27
Nun his son
and Joshua his son.

I realize that when these Chronicles were written many, if not most, of the names meant something to the reader. This verse means something to me because I recognize Joshua, son of Nun. I know much of his story through the book of Joshua in scripture. I also know parts of his story as he accompanied Moses. I wonder if the original readers of this Chronicle had as vivid recollects about the other names as well.

1 Chronicles 6:31
These are the men David put in charge of the music in the house of the Lord after the ark came to rest there.

Music is important to the Lord. Music is to be properly organized and requires leaders. It is the pastor's responsibility to appoint men to the task who will be faithful to the 'regulations laid down for them' vs.32.

1 Chronicles 5:20
They were helped in fighting them, and God delivered the Hagrites and all their allies into their hands, because they cried out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted in him.

We should follow their example and cry out to God. We should trust in the Lord for deliverance.

Verses 10-16 focus on the descendants of Solomon. In verse 17 it mentions Jehoiachin was captive. This was during the time in Babylon.

There were a lot of names to take in, in this chapter2. Off hand it appears to describe how and who the clans are. I chose verse 16, because I was able to recognize Joab. He was one of David's nephews and became his military advisor (I think).

Hadad also died.
The chiefs of Edom were:

DIED. This verse and the preceding verses list the names of the kings that died. These were kings of the descendants of Keturah in Edom. Bela died. Jobab died. Husham died. Hadad died. Samoan died. Shaul died. Baal- Hanan died. Hadad also died. It is interesting to me because when reading the book of the kings, referring to the kings of Israel and Judah, it mentioned that the rest of their life history was written in the books and what really stands out is that it says they SLEPT with their fathers.....instead of using the word 'died'.

2 Kings 25:27
In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the year Awel-Marduk became king of Babylon, he released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison. He did this on the twenty-seventh day of the twelfth month.

This event, especially how it is written so briefly here, made me curious. I turned to Gill's commentary app.(technology can be so helpful) This chapter in 2 Kings parallels a chapter in Jeremiah. Awel-Marduk was Nebuchadnezzar's son. Gill presents two theories as to why he would release Jehoiachin. One was that Nebuchadnezzar had thrown his son into prison after he recovered from the whole eating grass episode of seven years because of how his son had managed things in his stead. The son had befriended Jehoiachin while in prison and showed him kindness when he had the authority to. The other theory was that when Jehoiachin had first been dragged into Babylonian exile, he was pleasant to look at and Awel-Marduk felt sympathy for him. That since they were same age and all.. this second theory doesn't work for me because then I wonder why A-M didn't release him during the seven years his father was nuts. So I go with the first theory. I like this verse because it causes me to picture the events in my mind and wonder the motives behind them.

He carried all Jerusalem into exile: all the officers and fighting men, and all the skilled workers and artisans—a total of ten thousand. Only the poorest people of the land were left.

2 Kings 23:22
Neither in the days of the judges who led Israel nor in the days of the kings of Israel and the kings of Judah had any such Passover been observed.

They were to observe the Passover annually, yet it hadn't been done for 400 hundred years. I find this both shocking and interesting, seeing as God as silent to the Jews for the 400 years before Christ.
