The Prayers of a Mother Never Stop Working
Mother’s Day holds a special place on the church calendar. It consistently ranks as one of the highest attendance Sundays of the year, and there’s a simple reason why: when faithful sons and daughters ask “Mom, what would you like for Mother’s Day?” the answer so often comes back, “I would love it if you would take me to church.”
That says everything.
There is something undeniably powerful about a praying mother. Time and again, we hear from people who come to faith and say, almost without exception, “I wish my mom were here to see this. She prayed for me every single day.” Mothers come in all forms. Biological moms, stepmoms, grandmothers, women who adopted children into their hearts through love and life circumstances. None are perfect. But so many carry a deep, aching desire to see their children spend eternity with Jesus.
If you are a mom reading this with a heavy heart for a child who has not yet received Jesus, know that you are not alone. We would be honored to stand with you in prayer. Simply email us their first name, and we will join you in lifting them up.
A Seat on a Plane, a Bible by the Bed
We recently heard a story from a League Member that captures exactly why we do what we do.
She and her husband were flying to Phoenix when they struck up a conversation with the man seated next to them. He shared the remarkable story of his brother’s survival after a terrible car accident. By every measure, his brother should not have made it. The car missed a concrete culvert, then a metal one, then several trees, before finally stopping in a way that spared his life. Injured and unseen from the road, he lay in the cold until a passing driver’s headlights happened to catch sight of him.
After telling the story, the man paused and said, “I’ve never believed in God, but every once in a while, I think there’s someone sitting on my shoulder.” Then he asked the question himself: “Was it God?”
That door swung wide open. The conversation turned to the character of God and the hope found in the Gospel. When asked if he owned a Bible, the man said yes. His mother had given him one as a child, and it still sat by his bed. He had always thought he would read it someday.
She then reached into her bag and handed him a Gospel of John, encouraging him to start there.
A seed planted by a mother years before. Watered and revitalized by a small Gospel of John given in an unforeseen moment. God is able.
Don’t Stop Praying
Stories like this one remind us to shout from the rooftops: don’t stop praying. The whispered prayers at night. The steady, faithful prayers across years and decades. The prayers offered with hope, worry, trust, and love all mixed together. They matter more than we can measure.
As Mother’s Day approaches, we want to thank every mother for the quiet, and sometimes not so quiet, consistency you bring to loving and serving your families. Your faithfulness is shaping eternity in ways you may not see yet.
Thank you also to every League Member whose perseverance in the Gospel makes stories like this possible. Because of your faithfulness, God’s Word continues to be shared across America, one conversation, one Gospel, one seed at a time.
Until All Are Invited.
