1 Corinthians 2:14
The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

Such an excellent proclamation from Paul. How many times have we had someone look with a questioning expression when we speak something only the Spirit could have revealed to us? Only when I received Christ did things of God come alive to me. Lord, we ask that You, by Your Holy Spirit to bring revelation of Christ, who He is, and their need of Him in their lives. Amen

Amen Lloyd, the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit that inspires Scripture, Scripture that we use today. John 16:8 When He comes, He will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment. For the Christian, the Holy Spirit has a ministry where by He helps us understand the Bible. May the Blessings of the Holy Spirit guide you through out the day and every day.

How should we think about people the Bible describes as spiritually blind? We call a person who can’t walk physically disabled. Would we call a person with a condition that they were born with mentally disabled? The apostle Paul, at one point in his life, was spiritually disabled. Not, won’t, or doesn’t see—can’t! He could not see. That’s the condition of the “natural person” Paul described to the Corinthians-he’s blind. In John 6:44, Jesus said, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him.” He’s not getting saved—not unless the Father draws him. She’s not getting saved—not unless the Father draws her. Look at Ephesians 4:18 “having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;” That describes the condition of everyone who has not yet been “born again”. You see, all of us were born on the broad road. It’s a very busy highway—eight lanes—packed with people, crowded, pushing, and running headlong into an eternity separated with God. And unless God Himself intercepts, stops, and turns them, that spiritually-disabled person will go where spiritually-disabled (blind) people go. God has to do it. God has to interrupt. God has to intersect the spiritual blindness. It is all God! 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 tells us, “But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.” Maybe it’s time to stop calling people pagans or heathens. They’re lost because they can’t see! Not don’t see or won’t see. They can’t see. They are spiritually blind. And we should pity them and love them - just as God does. In 1 Corinthians 2:14, Paul described a person in this condition on this broad road. He called him the natural man, the way we are before God interrupts; the way we are before God intercepts; the way we are before God saves! And he said, “The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God; neither can he know them for they are spiritually discerned” (NKJV). Unless God, by the Holy Spirit, intercepts and interrupts, he can’t know it. In fact, the Bible says it’s foolishness to him. That makes him blind and foolish! God’s Word changes our view of the world and our view of our own experience. We didn’t “find” Christ; He found us and gave us sight. There is nothing about salvation that we can claim credit for. It was His work. We won’t see the world the way God sees it until we realize we are surrounded with blind people in desperate need of healing that only our heavenly Father can give. We cannot expect spiritually blind people to act like anything other than who and what they are- blind and foolish. We need to have a Godly capacity for forgiveness expressed in the first moments on the cross—forgive them “for they know not what they do”. Jesus was recognizing their blindness. We should also thank God intercepting and interrupting our journey toward hell and turning me around to look toward heaven. I am reminded on John 9: “And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him” (vv. 2-3) “One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.” (v. 25) “Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him.” (v. 38) I don’t want to forget that I too was once blind even as I enjoy the amazing gift of sight from Jesus. Now that I believe (and see), Becasue of His limitless love I am compelled to worship Jesus! "Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see." ( from “Amazing Grace” Lyrics by John Newton)

Ever talk to an unbeliver, someone from a false religion, cult or athiest and no matter how logical, basic and simplified you try to make it they just don't get it and it's like talking to a brick wall? This verse pretty much sums up exactly why. Unbelivers cannot understand God and they cannot grasp the concept that God's sprit lives in believers. Just as a tone deaf person cannot apprieciate fine music, the person who rejects God cannot understand God's beatiful message.

Oh this word saddens me because I know it is real. I have a friend that is an Atheist and is VERY set in his ways. We have been friends since 1997 and I have been trying with all I have to witness to him. I'm not a broke record, but when the opportunity opens up I share as much as he will allow me. At one point he even expressed his concern that I believed in an "imaginary god." This broke me, but over time the Holy Spirit has revealed that my friend is foolish and chooses not to see or seek out the TRUTH. That is something he will have to face for eternity. I believe Christ has called me to not give up on my friend and continue to pray for him and that Jesus will make a radical change in my friends life...one that develops a personal relationship between him and Jesus Christ.

Hi Sydni. I feel your pain. My wife's family are Jehovah's Witnesses and trying to show them the "truth" about who Jesus really is, is like talking to a brick wall. I've had my bouts with athiests too. If you look on utube you'll fine many good videos on how to witness to athiests. In a sense you need to think like they do or, at the very least, plant a seed of doubt before the converstation is over. One example is when I was witnessing to an athiest I simply told him: "I'll be more than happy to prove to you that God exists... if you first prove to me that he doesn't. It doesn't matter what he says, just go along with it; you're trying to make him rationalize with himself. You can close the converstation with another seed of doubt by saying; you know after our conversation, you really taught me something. You showed me it takes a lot more faith to be an athiest, then to believe in God. I'm sure he'll have a rebutal, but what he won't show you is that his brain may just start spinning some wheels. And lastly, NEVER stop praying. It took my wife 5 years for her to come to Christ with me praying continually (see Acts 12:5) and and several years of her parents completly shunning her, they too, are opening up. Hope that helps. God Bless.

Bruno - Thank you for sharing your story with me and for also encouraging me to never give up. Sometimes I just need to see it in writing and/or hearing it. You gave me some wonderful advice. I will cherish it and try putting it into practice. I am thrilled to hear that your wife came to Christ! Praise the Lord! I am praying that her parents will see the truth and come to Christ! Some chapters I wish we could pick more than 1 verse for I would have picked verses 6, 9 & 11 too. I also would have included verse 15 to finish the thought of the one I picked today too. "15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments" I choose verse 14&15 today because this describes my landlord & myself to a T He is w/o the holy spirit and ademently rejects anything to do with God (not just Jesus but the Trinity) in fact he considers me foolish because I believe in what he calls "fables". In the mean time he is trusting of a person that has shown to anyone with ears that hear and eyes that see that the person is untrustworthy. As we read in verse 15 it is okay to make judgements IF the holy spirit within you is the one that is making the judgement call not the human within you. That said when a man kept hanging around my shop for hours on end and during which time the hairs on the back of my neck stood up whenever he was around that was because the holy spirit was warning me, so when I found out that he was a convicted pedofiler with targets on my son, My ex pastor should have understood rather than make me feel like I was the gulity party. My ex pastor thought he had the gift of decernment (which he may have at times) BUT spiritual gifts are not 100% of the time but as the lord wills it. In the end I found another church.
