1 Timothy 3:1
Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task.

Reading scripture means work. In response to God we must do something about His words, or else scriptures are only pleasant thoughts or noble aspirations inspiring us to wax poetically while denying to them their inherent force and what they are surely meant to be: "living and active, sharper than any two edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart"(Hebrews 4:12). Here's how I study scripture. Whenever, I read a scripture I ask myself three questions. First, what does it say about God? Second, what does it tell me about myself? Last, and most importantly, what will I do about these words. Notice I used the word, do. The question really becomes in response to God's words how will I change? God is very intentional. He wants overseers of His household to view their positions not as a titles but a tasks, albeit a "noble task," a task nonetheless. It is an end unto itself. It's own reward. Not a position with perks. I have too often looked at jobs in my church as positions of prestige (titles), something that people should appreciate me for doing, rather than the other way around, i.e., my appreciating them for allowing me to serve. I will look at service in God's Household (His Church) as a blessing from God not an obligation laid upon my life. He has blessed me with the desires (aspirations) of my heart: service in His Household.

Here is a trustworthy saying... this portion of the verse reinforces the fact that the Word of God as written is accurate and completely reliable for the answers to all our needs. Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task..... this portion tells me that preaching and spreading the message of Christ is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about.

Actually, Verses 1 through 7 is what I would love to achieve because these verses leave no stone unturned when it comes to running a household and serving God. Now that I am aware of this, I will keep it in mind and practice it much more often. Thank you Jesus.
