Job 4:5
But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged;
it strikes you, and you are dismayed.
Patty B.
Patty B. from Dallas, GA said:
The verses before say how Job was a strength to others in times of trouble. He spoke words of encouragement to them but when he is faced with trials and trouble he becomes discouraged. How easy it is for us to speak words of faith and strength when we are not the ones faced with trials. The true test is for our faith to be as strong when we are the recipients of trials as it is when we are lifting others up.

With what Job had been through, I think it would be difficult not to be dismayed, at least for a period of time.

As Job helped others who were hurting he now needed someone to help him by sympathising with him and not judging in a way that Eliphaz did as he did not completely understand the real truth. God, help me to never forget the times that I hurt so badly and how You were there for me and then help me to always be able to see when someone else may need encouraging words rather than judgemental words. Unless we have walked in someone else's shoes and truly understand what is going on, we have no right to scold and inform how they should handle things. Thank you God for always being with me when I really needed You and for putting people in my life to help pull me out of darkness.

Amen, Patsy. Well expressed. I can sense what Job was going through after all he had to contend with in his grief. It was unreasonable for him to be criticized for grief and suffering he endured. God bless, Patsy.

Our every heartbeat and each moment of our existence is not under our control. We are totally dependent even though we allow ourselves to live as though we are not when life is smooth. We are easily troubled when God allows pain or strife to beset us, but we should rather have the same attitude of confidence in our Lord as in times of joy.

Agreed, well said, Pamela. It is always best to trust in the Lord during our struggles as well as our joyous times.

These words expressly speak to a place of discomfort I have been feeling. It is a place I cannot explain yet I do wonder at the purpose. It washes away, all the tension, every hardship, when I recall scriptures as, As they went they were cleansed, He will lead you into places that you know not. I find those arrivibg in my spirit even right now. But thos verse reminds me that I am dust and He is God. Thanks for the opportunity to share.
