Due to the amount of space devoted to discussing this topic, it must be significant but I don't see it in this day and age. It is interesting that the priest did play doctor role, sort of. Perhaps leprosy and being "unclean" was more prominent in those days.

God was protecting the people from spreading disease from one to another. Today we use doctor's to make these judgment calls.
