Proverbs 23:13
Do not withhold discipline from a child;
if you punish them with the rod, they will not die.
Lloyd S.
Lloyd S. from Trenton, ON said:
Once again the topic of physical discipline arises in the verse 13 and again in the next verse. I do not believe this means that you should beat a child unmercifully during your anger. But a good swat with a belt or something that will sting, on their behind, will leave a definite message that his actions were not acceptable. I know even believers who say you should not swat a child physically as it will lower their self esteem. I have pointed out to some, what Proverbs says, more than once. Warn them once but if the same misdemeanor happens again, it is time for a loving physical reprimand. Lord, help parents to have wisdom in the correction of their correction of their children. Amen

Yes, Lloyd, we're living with a generation of people who weren't disciplined as kids and seeing the fruit of it.

There is nothing wrong with discipline a child how will the know they have done wrong if they are not told. That's whats wrong with the world today parents have lost control of the family. It's a shame they need to turn back to God.

That's right, Linda, a lot of people are too insecure and fear their child won't love them if they discipline them. But the opposite is true

Hi Linda. Abraham Lincoln put his finger on what's wrong with America today more than 100 years ago when he wrote: " We have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious Hand which preserves us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own." Yes, Linda, it is a shame that far too many parents fail to discipline their children, but the shame goes much deeper than just not disciplining our children and grandchildren, it extends to us Christians not correcting one another in love when we stray from the true and narrow path. To paraphrase what Donna N. said, "a lot of Christians [perhaps the vast majority of Christians] are too insecure and fear that their brothers and sisters in Christ won't love them if they correct them when they stray,"

We have to get to the place where it is more important to please God and risk rejection than the other way around!
