Exodus 33:4
When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn and no one put on any ornaments.

The ornaments / gold that they had given to have an idol made out of gold with. These would be an affront to God. Some were already not wearing any - if they had them on, they took them off. We are to go to God, in humility - with no fancy pretense of being anything other than what we are. They were a stiff-necked people - did not want to bow down to the Lord. What are we like? Do we want to admit our shortcomings? God was giving them over to the leadership of Moses - with out Him. He was going to keep His promise of the promised land - but He would not be with them. If He went, his holiness would require likewise, and that was not going to happen. He wanted to be merciful - so those are the steps that He is asking of them. Take off your ornaments. If you aren't ashamed of your misdeeds - lets at least take steps in that direction. Just like us as parents. We can't force our children to be sorry for something they have done - but we can ask them to at least look that way - and take steps in that direction - and sometimes they do get there.

Exodus 32:1
When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, "Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don't know what has happened to him."

All I can say is: These people had put their faith and trust in Moses - not in the Lord. They did not know what to do if Moses was not around - and so now, they think they need a god to lead them. It is too bad that they could not talk to God themselves. We were seeing last night at church, how Jesus showed the people of His day - to pray to "Our Father" which art in Heaven. They may not have thought of Him as our Father before - making it much easier to go to the Lord, and talk to Him - as we know that we can do.

Exodus 31:13
"Say to the Israelites, 'You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.

This verse, and the ones following, are a good reminder to me. We have a home business - and animals to care for, which of course they need to be taken care of - but God wants us to have a day of rest from our labor. A day to enjoy His blessings to us - and to know that He made us and refreshes us. Thank You Lord, Please help me to do this.

Exodus 30:8
He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the Lord for the generations to come.

Today, I see that God wants the sweet smell of me sacrificing my will, and instead for me to do His will - to be obedient and humble to Him - and that will be so much better for all around me. Thank You Lord, for showing this to me, this morning.

Exodus 29:46
They will know that I am the Lord their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the Lord their God.

IT seems unreal that they had all that sacrificing to do - every day! But, at the end, it says it all - that they will know, God is the Lord their God - He brought them out of Egypt - so that He might dwell among them. "I am the Lord their God." God is the Lord my God - I am thankful that He has delivered me from being captive to sin. Thank You, Lord.
