Shechem rapes Dinah. Simeon and Levi lie and then murder every male in a city to pay back the sin of one man. There's certainly nothing here to model our lives after. But then there is the story of God's grace in it all. For Levi's family will be chosen as the priestly family. There's nothing about our lives either that would help us earn God's gift of salvation. But then there's Jesus who died for us on the cross to save sinners like Simeon, Levi, and us! Praise His holy name!

Wow. Another horrendous story. What was Jacob thinking when he did nothing but decided to wait for his sons to return from the fields? The brothers had a more righteous response though what should we make of their retaliation?

This really caused a mess, though it should never have been agreed upon, it was done deceitfully but then the covenant was broken by the slaying of the men. Sure puts Jacob in a hard place.

Jacob is a piece of work, one of the hardest people in the bible to understand.
