Hebrews 10:14
For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

There are several verses that I could have chosen in this chapter but this one says what I believe. Yes, we are covered by the blood of Jesus but we are to continue being made holy through learning by His word that He has given us. We are to continue to improve ourselves and be strengthened by fellowship, learning and applying what we learn. I believe we will not be completely holy until we meet Jesus, after our earthly life. Help me/us Lord, to persevere in drawing closer to You through the reading and applying the truths You have provided for is in the Bible. Amen

Although it has the same meaning, I like the KJV Bible wording better, which states that 'by one offering he has perfected forever them that are sanctified.' We are sanctified through Christ (vs.10) and according to this verse we are perfected forever through Him (by faith, of course). And because we are in a body of flesh which is prone to sin, we need to ask and trust our Lord Jesus Christ to keep us following hard after Him. He will do the good things we ask. Matthew 7: 7-11.

This verse gives me assurance that God has taken away my sin and He is working on me to be holy. To me it seems like a slow process, but as I stay in His word, He draws me into His perfect will. My job is to be obedient to Him.

Linda, I hope you won't be offended by what I feel the need to share, but that you will give it prayerful thought and search these things out with the Lord in His Word. It helped me so much when God finally got it through to me that I am holy, because He is holy. It has nothing to do with what I do or don't do, but only because, as it is written, "... if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches." Jesus is the firstfruit, we are the lump. He is the root, we are the branches (Romans 10: 16). God also tells us that we are in Christ Jesus, clothed in Him, as it is written in 1Corinthians 1: 30; Galatians 3: 27; Acts 17: 28; Colossians 3:3; Isaiah 61: 10 and so many more scriptures that testify we are in Chirst, He is our righteousness, our wisdom, our sanctification, our redemption. (1Cor. 1: 30). Keep in mind Proverbs 23: 7 'as a man thinks in his heart, so is he:...' Just like we have heard about children who are continually told they are stupid, or lazy, or ugly, whatever, after awhile they tend to believe it and they end up not caring and not trying, That's why I feel it is so important for Christians to be encouraged to believe they are holy as soon as they become born into the family of God, because He is holy. And the more we think of ourselves in this light, the more His holiness will begin to shine through. Not giving us cause to have a holier than thou attitude, because it will be from God, of God. The humility and holiness of our Lord Jesus Christ is ours through our inheritance. We are joint-heirs with Him (Romans 8: 16, 17). "Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:..."(1John 3:1). Don't get discouraged, but let God do His perfect work in and through you, Linda. When it seems like it's taking a long time for you to see any real changes, just praise Him anyhow, and continue to stand in faith. Remember, He is the Potter, we are the clay and we really shouldn't criticize the Master's work :) It is important to prayerfully read His Word, asking and trusting the Holy Spirit to teach us and guide us into all truth, just as He says He will do in John 14: 26; 16: 13-15; 1John 2: 27. God bless you and yours, Linda

Vivian, You are very kind to respond - thank you. You're right - we who are in Christ are holy because of what Jesus has done for us, and continues with the Father, and the Holy Spirit is His guarantee in us that we are His. That fact is comforting and reassuring, and I can rest easy, without worry. I think obedience is still necessary to carry out God's will - "Through Him God gave me the privilege of being an apostle for the sake of Christ, in order to lead people of all nations to believe and obey. This also includes you who are in Rome, whom God has called to belong to Jesus Christ." Romans 1:5-6. Your comments are very welcome, and I appreciate your taking the time to respond to me.
