Job 5:17
"Blessed is the one whom God corrects;
so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.

Tom N. from Johnstown, PA said:
When we are going through a difficult moment or season of life, if we are in Christ, the Lord is working it for our good, because He loves us, and works all thing toward the salvation of his people. It is when we see no discipline given to us, no chastisements for disobedience or sins in our lives that we should be the most concerned.

God loves us enough to correct us in our wrongdoing. Therefore, we should not get upset when He does it. If He didn't love us, He would let us do whatever we wanted to do. Some people don't like to be corrected but it is for our good. We are truly bless because He loves us just that much.

This verse means to me that as children of God we should never be upset about God disciplining us. Whom God displine He love so it should be a blessing to be corrected by God. It shows he really loves us as his children and wants us to live a good life as well as walk as a child of God should walk.

Eliphaz was right, it is a blessing to be disciplined by God when we do wrong. Hebrews 12:5-11 bears this truth out. There was one problem though, this was not the reason Job was suffering. We learn early on that Job's suffering was not caused by sin. We like Eliphaz can be guilty of making false assumptions when we give advise to others. It is always wise to thoroughly know a person's situation before giving them advise.
