Leviticus 25:17
Do not take advantage of each other, but fear your God. I am the Lord your God.

God is telling them, do not take advantage of each other, do not cheat one another. Treat everyone with respect and fairly. Fear God in all things, not in the sense of being afraid of God but fear his judgement should you decide to disobey a him. If only we would live by this today and treat each fairly in business deals and everyday life.

If we all practiced treating others as God treats you it would be amazing what could be accomplished. With theses laws in this chapter God first let's us know we can rely on him for our needs putting our faith in him. He also with the year of jubilee lets us know we are all equal in his eyes and that eventually we will all be restored in him. Practicing the year of jubilee allowed there to be no status elevation amongst the people. Things always go back how God put them and how he intended it. He also lets us know in this chapter that we are to love and care for each other especially those who can't. Just basic kindness goes a long way.

I really love the intent of this verse: maintain an awe, a reverential fear of God, and treat each other fairly, not taking advantage of any, no matter that they could not protect themselves, because God will hold us accountable for the way we treat each other.

This is an example of the detailed instructions god needed to give the Jews under the old covenant. Praise God the those of us under God's new covenant through Christ need to only love God and love our neighbor as ourselves....and the details take care of themselves.

Our society teaches us if we don't take what we want by whatever means necessary than we will miss out. God teaches if we trust Him we will have what we need.
