2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

God's grace which is unmerited favour. How wonderful that our Lord loves us sinners so much that He would favour us as believers with His Grace. It is simply amazing as in the life of the Apostle Paul, who as Saul, persecuted the church.

Key words "My Grace is sufficient for you.The Grace of God is a free gift, it is undeserved, unearned. We are all sinners and have fallen short of His Glory, but God in His grace forgives us, we have a restored fellowship with God. The Grace of God, is redeeming us through the death of His Son. Our Salvation is free but it cost Christ His life.

2 Corinthians 12: 7-10 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. 8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. A lot of folks speculate about Paul's thorn in the flesh. The word thorn is STRONGS#: G4647 Thayer Definition: a pointed piece of wood, a pale, a stake, a sharp stake, splinter. The word messenger is Strong's# G32, a messenger, envoy, one who is sent, an angel, a messenger from God. The Eph 6 kingdom refers to angels, principalities, rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places. My interpretation of this is that according to the book of Job, Satan can't do anything to us that God the Father doesn't allow. Paul tells us specifically that this thorn is a messenger from Satan. I believe we all have weaknesses that are our own battle. For some, it's addictions, some, it's emotional issues and others it's something else. Paul didn't say exactly WHAT this thorn is, but he does say that God allowed it to keep Paul from being too self sufficient. People say, "God will never give you more than you can handle". I disagree with that statement, because if WE can handle it, we wouldn't need God. Paul says he glories in his weakness, because in his weakness, God is able to strengthen him, and work thru Him. Papa God, there are times when I get to feeling self sufficient, and there's times I feel so weak that if it's gonna get done, it'll only be because You did it. I don't ever wanna do ANYTHING in my own strength. Keep me ever mindful that You're my strength and salvation, and because of that I'll not be afraid, but trust in You for ALL things

“I thought the Christian life was going to be easier than this!” Have these words ever entered your mind? Sometimes we come into the family of God thinking that our heavenly Father will immediately fix all our problems and devote Himself to our [selfish] happiness and comfort. However, that is not the reality portrayed in Scripture. Paul was a man whom the Lord used greatly, and yet his life was anything but easy (“…in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often…..five times I received forty stripes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep; in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness—…besides the other things, what comes upon me daily…” 2 Cor. 11:23-28). Why should we expect better? In fact, at one point, the apostle thought his pain was too much to bear, and he begged God to remove it (2 Cor, 12:8). There’s nothing wrong with asking the Lord to relieve our suffering, but what should our response be if He doesn’t? Paul probably had no idea that His experience would find its way into the Bible, to comfort and guide believers throughout the ages. The promise God gave him applies to us as well: “My grace is sufficient for you” (v. 9). God’s grace could be defined as His provision for us at the point of our need. The problem is that sometimes it doesn’t seem as if the Lord truly is meeting our need. But He frequently sees deficiencies, outcomes, and complications that we don’t. His goals for us include spiritual growth, the development of Christlike character, and developing a stronger strong faith. And trials play a vital role in achieving these God ordained goals. The important issue in our “trials of life” is how we respond. If all you want is relief, you could descend into anger and doubt. But if your desire is to become the person God wants you to be, you’ll see each trial as an opportunity for Christ to display His character and strength in you. Taking the long view of situations, keeping hope alive, and expecting life to have pain are three ways God gives us through His Word to deal with the hurts we face in life. The last step is an amazing promise that we have to believe about God. It’s God’s answer to Paul’s plea tgat we read in verse 9: “But He said:…”. “But He said:…”. “But Jesus said:…”. It is interesting to notice that this is the only time in all of Paul’s thirteen letters where Paul quotes Christ directly. “He said…”. From this direct quoting of Our Savior we can see three great lessons :#1) It was personal. #2) It was difficult. #3) It was no small issue. The Great Apostle Paul himself needed a personal word from Jesus; a personal word from Jesus that Paul is passing on to us! I know that I do not have what it takes, but God does! And that’s the change of heart that “a thorn” or “trial” can cause—a desperate needy dependence on the Lord and His strength to operate because of my acute awareness of my weakness. Left to my own resources, I would never think to run to Jesus as earnestly and desperately if things were going smoothly all the time. But when I hit a “speed-bump”in my life and when life hurts I need to run desperately toward Jesus because He is able to “sympathize with our weaknesses” (Heb. 4:14-16). Let’s allow His power to be perfected in our weakness, His grace is more than sufficient!
