Hebrews 8:6
But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.

In this passage is being revealed the superiority of the New Covenant to the Old Covenant, and that the Old is replaced by the New because Christ was the "Sacrificial Lamb" slain for the sins of the world. I again do not care for the NIV, as it leaves out capitalization of references to deity as in this verse should have capitalized "he" and "mediator", referring to Jesus. (But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which "He" is "Mediator" is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.) The ministry of the tabernacle was only a type and symbol of the realities accomplished by Christ. Therefore His ministry surpasses the Levitical priesthood, just as "substance" surpasses "shadow." Christ was the "Real Thing." Hallelujah and praise to the Lord of all.

Amen Peter. Once again, we chose the same verse and you expressed it much simpler than I did. Hopefully I didn't make it to complex. Be encouraged and blessed Peter, as we begin another week leading to eternity with the King of kings. PS: Winter attempted to hold on Sat. night as we received about an inch of snow here, and rain all day but back to light snow again tonight. Hopefully it will give up soon. :-)

Hebrews 8: 6  But now has he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. The goal of the old covenant was to discover sin, condemn it, cover it, and build a fence around it. When Jesus brought the new covenant, He revealed the evil Ephesians 6 kingdom and showed that we still need to discover and condemn it, but we're supposed to recognize where it's coming from and cast it out. The problem is that the church today is telling folks that if they have the Holy Spirit in them, that they can't have an evil spirit, and when they sin, it's them that has the problem, and they walk around with guilt, condemnation, feeling like failures. No, an evil spirit can't possess someone's spirit if they're filled with the Holy Spirit, but if there's any area of our life that's not submitted to God, it's fair game for the enemy. Jesus made it plain in Matthew 12 and Luke 11 when He said, when the strong man is cast out, he goes to dry places seeking rest, and finds none. he says, I will return unto my house from which I came out. And when he comes, he finds it swept and in order. Then he goes, and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So we must keep our houses filled with the Word, decree love, grace, and mercy of God, with repentance, remission of sin, and eternal life, toward ourselves and others. The enemy is so sly, he gives us thoughts in our own voice, we act on them, then he makes us feel guilty for doing it. He's always over on the sidelines accusing everyone to themselves, each other and to God, creating bitterness, resentment, division, judgment and all other sorts of break down of relationships. He hates us, and we're so easy, we just buy right into it. All these negative emotions cause our bodies to release toxic chemicals into our blood stream and the church has just as much sickness, disease and break down of relationships as the world does. Meanwhile, we pray for healing and God can't violate His own law. Hosea 4:6 says My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you shall be no priest to me: because you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children. Isaiah 5:13 says My people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst. The church needs to stop cherry picking verses that promise blessings while there's still sin in the camp. God is an "if" and "then" God. The 1st half of Deuteronomy 28 tells us "if" we hearken to the voice of God, blessings will chase us down, we won't need to go looking for them. The 2nd half of that chapter tells us "if" we DON'T hearken unto the voice of God, "then" curses will chase us down. As we read, understand and DO what the Word says, we'll begin to think like God thinks, then begin talking like God talks, then act like God acts. Papa God, reveal to me any and all areas of my life big and small where I'm participating with the enemy, that I may recognize, take responsibility, repent and renounce and be free from all of it, in Jesus name, Amen

Just think how fortunate we are! Under the old covenant people would be stoned and put to death for many different things like gathering firewood on the sabbath. While we are admonished to obey the law, praise Jesus we are no longer under the curse of the law.

The old covenant is based on the law, and we know that under the law everybody sins and fail thus no one can escape judgement, but the new covenant made through Jesus is a promise of God, a promise made through Jesus that can only be received through faith and not by works in our own effort. Grace is superior to the law just as the builder of the house has more honor than the house itself.

This is a very powerful verse here in Hewbrews 8 because it is our "second chance", but this time this convenant promise is better because we have Jesus as our mediator and we are still under grace, if we choose to except his gift.

Lloyd S. from Trenton, ON said:
And that is the key point, Bruno, that many do not realize that they need to receive the gift He (Jesus) has provided. It's as simple as someone holding out a gift to us. All we have to do is reach out and receive it. If we do not receive, then it is not ours. I believe that He, through His Holy Spirit is going to awaken many to their need in the near future. Thank You, Jesus for Your patience.

That's the point Lloyd! It's a gift.. .and it's free.. we just need to recieve it! And in retrospect, when I explain this to unbleivers (espeicailly the JW's) they say.. no... there more to it.. you need to "do" things...it's just "too simple". Yes, it is simple - but as we know being a Christain is not easy - that's the differance - and if you need to "do" stuff, then it's not a "free gift"! Ugh! I can talk to them until I'm blue in the face and they still have a difficult time understanding the concept of free. But I agree, in the near future they may get an instant relization of how simple it was and for many, it will be too late...

The old covenant "is obsolete and outdated and will soon disappear" (vs 13). The new is superior and established on better promises.... for He who soever believes in Him shall not perish.... seek ye first the kingdom of heaven and all these will be given to you....your belief has healed you...follow me and I will make you fishers of men.... Father, thank you for making covenant with us. Thank you for such solid loving promises. Thank you for teaching us and giving us hope beyond our own understanding. Be my strength, be my guide, be my courage, my counsellor, my healer....I love you for what you have given me. May I be overflowing in love and gratefulness, expressing joy and thus, glorifying you. Amen and Amen.
