Amid Pressure, the Gospel Advances in India

Last week we opened Psalm 2:1-4 and reflected on how nations can position themselves in opposition to Almighty God. China served as one example of this reality.

India now presents another.

There is a growing sense that India may be moving toward a Hindu theocracy, though the situation is complex and still unfolding.

At first glance, China and India appear very different. China openly embraces atheism, while India’s shift seems rooted in religious identity. Yet both, in different ways, reflect systems that elevate something in place of the One True Living God. Every nation, every system, every person will ultimately bow before Him.

So what is happening in India? India is not officially a theocracy. It remains, by constitutional definition, a secular nation. However, it is increasingly described as an illiberal, majoritarian democracy. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party promotes Hindutva, a form of Hindu nationalism that seeks to center national identity around Hindu culture and belief. There is ongoing debate about how to define these changes. But for The League, this is not a theoretical discussion. It is a real and urgent Gospel opportunity.

In recent weeks, League Partners have reported churches being vandalized, worship gatherings disrupted, and pastors physically assaulted. A Morning Star News report described believers being arrested after a prayer meeting. Additional firsthand reports shared with us detail attacks on churches and Christian leaders across multiple regions. And yet, the story does not end with opposition. Our brothers and sisters in India are pressing forward with courage and resolve.

Since October 2025, there have been 4,664,251 invitations extended to meet Jesus in India alone.

Recently, we gathered with 10 pastors and ministry leaders serving across India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and even Saudi Arabia. What stood out was not fear, but faith. Not hesitation, but determination. These leaders are committed to helping people meet Jesus, no matter the cost.

Here is what we heard:

“I couldn’t believe it, but I can see God is working.”

“The discipleship part, that is what we have been looking for.”

“We will set the example. We will set the models. We are the pioneers.”

Even as believers face beatings, mockery, and imprisonment, they continue to move forward. They are looking for every opportunity to be used by God and to help others meet Jesus.

The opportunity is significant. The need is great. And together, we will keep working.
