Genesis 39:21
the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.
Maureen S.
Maureen S. from Barrie, ON said:
When we are faithful to the Lord, He is faithful to us and grants us His favor....even comforting us while in prison, whether that prison be physical or spiritual... God is with us (Emmanuel)

Genesis 38:29
But when he drew back his hand, his brother came out, and she said, "So this is how you have broken out!" And he was named Perez.
Maureen S.
Maureen S. from Barrie, ON said:
I found it interesting to discover that Perez was an ancestor of Jesus... Matthew 1:3, Luke 3:33.despite being born of ungodly parents...a wonderful example of God's grace!

Kathy F. from Natalia, TX said:
Did you notice that God didn't condemn either of them? That he blessed both of them and put them in the genealogy of both King David and Jesus Himself? There were a lot fewer people in those days and childlessness was considered a terrible burden. Who would care for you in your old age? Other mothers looked down on the childless. They still do. I know because I was childless for 10 years. Finally I had a hysterectomy and it was made official that I would never bear a child. When I cried, I think they were finally ashamed of their unkindness. It wasn't that they were intentionally mean. They were just thoughtless. All wanted was to be a mother, so I was really sensitive, too. I wouldn't call Perez's parents ungodly. Judah repented and said, "She is more righteous than I am," because his last son had grown up and hadn't been given to Tamar to help her bear a son who would be called his brother's. When Boaz made Ruth his wife, he first stated that their child would be brought up to honor Ruth's first husband who had died without giving her any children.

Genesis 35:10
God said to him, "Your name is Jacob, but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel. " So he named him Israel.

Jacob had returned to his first love, (Rev.2:4-5) saw the error of his ways and got rid of idols and built and altar and worshiped God... so God blessed him by changing his name...We who are in Christ will have a new name, as well..(Rev. 2:17)... what a glorious day that will be!!

Genesis 34:30
Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have brought trouble on me by making me obnoxious to the Canaanites and Perizzites, the people living in this land. We are few in number, and if they join forces against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed."

Maureen S. from Barrie, ON said:
Once again, Jacob is only thinking of himself... he didn't stand up for Dinah when she was violated, so his sons, who had inherited his deceitful nature, had to defend her honor... be it in an ungodly manner, they defended their sister.
Lloyd S.
Lloyd S. from Trenton, ON said:
Just shows, humanity never really changes. Thank God for Jesus. Think I would have acted similar to Dinah's brothers but believe it would have been only to the perpetrator.
Maureen S.
Maureen S. from Barrie, ON said:
Yes, we do thank God, for Jesus.. we can never know how we would react to such a situation... it's so easy to judge but put us in the same circumstance and we may react the same way..

Genesis 33:20
There he set up an altar and called it El Elohe Israel.
Maureen S.
Maureen S. from Barrie, ON said:
Gen.12:6-7 tells us that Abraham built an altar in this place and Jacob, here, acknowledged that God was his protector and built his altar and sacrificed... God requires that we be obedient and then sacrifice.... "El-elohe-Israel" "a Mighty God is the God of Israel"

Genesis 32:24
So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.
Maureen S.
Maureen S. from Barrie, ON said:
This man is Jesus, who appears to Jacob, before His incarnation in Bethlehem. God wanted Jacob to surrender his pride and fleshly scheming and let Him lead and protect. Jacob like me, at times, doesn't rely on God but want to do things my own way... Lord, help me to completely surrender all aspects of my life to You and rely on Your leading as I journey with You through this earthly life. Amen.

Genesis 31:42
If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been with me, you would surely have sent me away empty-handed. But God has seen my hardship and the toil of my hands, and last night he rebuked you."

Maureen S. from Barrie, ON said:
Laban was ready to take back what he thought was his but God, Jehovah El Elohim, was with Jacob... as He is with us who have made Jesus our Lord, and Saviour.

In this way the man grew exceedingly prosperous and came to own large flocks, and female and male servants, and camels and donkeys.

Maureen S. from Barrie, ON said:
When we commit completely to God's will, He will bless us as He blessed Jacob. God had made a covenant with Abraham and through Jacob He kept it... God made a covenant with us through Jesus...we just need to hand over our lives to Him. Amen

He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

Genesis 27:46
Then Rebekah said to Isaac, "I'm disgusted with living because of these Hittite women. If Jacob takes a wife from among the women of this land, from Hittite women like these, my life will not be worth living."
Maureen S.
Maureen S. from Barrie, ON said:
This is a very sad chapter of a family's lies, deceit and of not following God's divine wisdom but their own man-centered wishes. It's so sad that Rebekah never saw her son again and that Esau married pagan women... each son taken away in a sense.
Lloyd S.
Lloyd S. from Trenton, ON said:
Amen, Maureen, and to this day the descendants of Esau, live by the sword, if I understand it correctly. God bless.
